Police were still searching for a man who fatally shot two bounty hunters in the Sunnyslope area of Phoenix on Monday evening.

David Brickert, 37, and Wesley Kampen, 39, of Sanctuary Bail Bonds were shot by an unknown man as they tried to take Anthony Brian Giunta into custody, said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.

Giunta, Brickert and Kampen were involved in a fight before the bounty hunters were able to handcuff Giunta, but as they approached their car, a second man emerged and shot and killed the bounty hunters and then ran, Martos said.

Martos said the shooter was described only as white, in his late 20s or early 30s.

A bloodied Giunta was finally taken into custody Monday night after he fled the shooting scene and took two men hostage in a nearby apartment before he was cornered by police, Martos said.

A large police presence was seen Monday night as the CBS 5 News helicopter flew above the scene. The police blocked off the neighborhood and went door to door searching for the second suspect, who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. at 1647 W. Yucca St., near 17th Avenue and Peoria.

Giunta was treated for his injuries by Phoenix firefighters and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Members of the U.S. Marshal's fugitive task force were also involved in the intensive search.
